Ming Chuan University (MCU) continues to promote the cultivation of sustainability and net-zero talent. Its performance in the “iPAS Junior Net-Zero Carbon Planning and Management Professional Certification,” promoted by the Ministry of Economic Affairs, has been remarkable. To date, 155 faculty, staff, and students have obtained the certification, achieving a pass rate of 54.01%, significantly higher than the national average of 33.68%. Notably, the teachers who participated in the training have further integrated the professional knowledge they gained into their teaching and curriculum design, inspiring students to understand and practice sustainability issues, demonstrating the university’s deepened effectiveness in higher education for sustainable development.
Teacher Jian Ming-Yu, who teaches “Introduction to Environmental Protection,” has incorporated net-zero emissions pathways, international climate agreements, and Taiwan’s “Climate Change Adaptation Act” into her teaching materials. She also introduced common corporate sustainability action initiatives and reporting standards, enabling students to understand the integration of future careers and professional development. Teacher Jian emphasized that accounting students, in particular, should focus on carbon footprint verification and sustainability reporting assurance, noting that iPAS will become an emerging advantage for accounting professionals. Teacher Li Ying-Yi from the Department of Finance stated that the training course provided her with a more comprehensive grasp of everything from international policies and carbon fee systems to green financial products, allowing her to integrate previously scattered information into a complete framework. In the future, she will incorporate this expertise into “Sustainable Finance” related courses, offering students more diverse perspectives on sustainability.
Lu Yang-Cheng, Chief Sustainability Officer of Ming Chuan University, pointed out that MCU’s promotion of a sustainable campus is not just a slogan; rather, it is achieved through substantive training and institutional design, gradually shaping a learning environment characterized by responsibility and action. To expand the promotion of sustainability and net-zero knowledge within the campus, the Office of Sustainability will host the “Three-Day Net-Zero Carbon Planning and Management Literacy Course” under the Higher Education SPROUT Project at the MCU Taoyuan Campus from October 17-19. All 120 available spots have been filled, demonstrating the high demand from faculty and students for professional training. This course is expected to continue deepening the professional expertise of teachers and the energy for campus promotion, cultivating more sustainable seeds who can implement the concept of net-zero in teaching, administration, and research practices.
