On November 24, Ming Chuan University’s Office of Sustainability held an environmental education workshop in collaboration with a General Education course, inviting water resources lecturer Po-Che Hu to deliver a talk that guided students through the mechanisms and applications of wastewater reclamation.

Supported by funding from the Ministry of Education’s Smart and Climate-Friendly Campus Foundation Program, the workshop was integrated with the General Education course Introduction to Environmental Protection, taught by instructor Ming-Yu Chien. This design extended classroom learning into practical environmental contexts. Hu, who has long worked in environmental education at the Dihua Sewage Treatment Plant, brought extensive practical experience in wastewater treatment and environmental outreach. During the lecture, he explained how municipal wastewater (“black water”) undergoes multiple purification stages to become reclaimed water (“lifesaving water”), and highlighted the critical role wastewater treatment plants play as the “kidneys of a city” in pollution control, circular economy development, and carbon reduction.

Deputy Director Min-Juei Chu of the Office of Sustainability stated that the workshop not only deepened students’ understanding of water resource management and wastewater reuse but also helped them comprehend the practical direction of building a smart and climate-friendly campus under the course’s structured guidance.

Ming Chuan University continues to advance its dual-track transformation toward intelligence and sustainability.
